6. The TCP/IP Protocols

The Internet.

What makes this world of packet switching are the TCP/IP protocols.

The good news is it works and the protocols are open!

The bad news is it isn't just one thing or just one protocol. There are no less than 8 versions of TCP. There are 2 versions of IP (IPv4 and IPv6).

Since it works (for the most part) most people assume there is little to learn here...just plug and play. Network Scientists know very differently.
